Located in the heart of the Cascade Mountains, Leavenworth is a scenic drive from several major cities in the Pacific Northwest.

If you’re coming from Seattle to Leavenworth, it’s about a 2.5-hour drive via Stevens Pass. This route is the most popular among visitors and offers stunning mountain views, especially during the winter season.

For those not driving, you can take Amtrak’s Empire Builder train, which runs directly to Leavenworth from Seattle and other nearby cities. You can also hire a shuttle or book a tour.

If you prefer to fly, the nearest airport is Pangborn Memorial Airport in Wenatchee, about 30 minutes from Leavenworth. But, only domestic flights land here and they are expensive. I recommend landing at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SEA) and then renting a car and making the drive.

No matter how you travel, the journey to this charming Bavarian town is an adventure in itself, especially during the holiday season.

Flying: Best Airport is Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SEA)

Once you find a spot to park, getting around Leavenworth is super easy. The downtown area is small, so you can walk everywhere—whether it’s checking out the Christmas lights, grabbing a bite to eat, or exploring the shops.

But finding parking during the holidays can be tricky. If you get there early, you might score a spot on the street or in a public parking lot, but they fill up fast. The best thing to do is stay at a downtown hotel or rental, so you can park once and forget about your car.

If you don’t want to deal with parking at all, the Wilkommen Park & Ride behind Safeway has free shuttles to take you downtown every hour. And if you need a ride, you can always call Leavenworth Shuttle & Taxi at (509)-548-7433.
