35 Dream Travel Destinations for Your Bucket List

Across my travels, these dream destinations are the ones I can’t recommend enough. Whether you’re after adventure, culture, or an unforgettable view, these spots deserve a place on your bucket list.

This image showcases the stunning Hanakapiai Falls in Kauai, Hawaii, with a tall, cascading waterfall surrounded by lush green cliffs. Kate stands on a rock at the edge of the serene pool below, gazing up at the waterfall.
This image features a scenic view of the Na Pali Coast in Kauai, Hawaii, with its dramatic cliffs and lush green ridges extending toward the blue ocean. The vibrant colors and natural beauty emphasize the majesty of this iconic Hawaiian location.

1. Kauai And The Napali Coast

I’ll be honest, I never had any of the Hawaiian islands on my bucket list.

Why?

Because I thought it was really touristy and because I can go other tropical places for a fraction of the price.

But when the stars aligned with some soon-to-expire Alaskan travel credits and a hotel voucher burning a hole in our pockets, Kauai ended up being the perfect fit.

So, off to Kauai we went…

And wow—this island stole my heart.

If you go (and you absolutely should), be sure to add these activities to your Kauai Itinerary:

  • Hike the Kalalau Trail to Hanakapiai Falls
  • Watch the sea turtles at Poipu Beach
  • And catching the golden hour on Kalepa Trail overlooking the Napali Coast.
  • Take a zodiac boat tour of the Napali Coast
  • Take an open-door helicopter tour

I was completely smitten with Kauai, and if you haven’t been yet, I highly recommend adding it to your list.

And surprisingly, it’s pretty easy to visit Kauai on a budget!

    2. Hallstatt, Austria

Hallstatt had been sitting on my bucket list forever.

Finally, stepping off the ferry and into this lakeside village was like walking straight into a fairytale.

It completely charmed me with its storybook streets and stunning lake views.

One of my favorite moments was taking a paddle boat out onto the calm-clear water—just my hubby and I, the mountains, and pure serenity.

Afterward, we spent hours wandering the narrow streets and stopping to eat at cozy restaurants along the waterfront.

If you’re looking for one of the most romantic spots on earth, Hallstatt is the place to be!

As soon as I saw the Aescher Mountain Guesthouse on the gram, I added it to my bucket list!

And when my husband chose Switzerland for our honeymoon, I knew we just had to make this happen.

Getting there was an adventure in itself. We hiked up through stunning alpine scenery, and when we finally arrived, it was even better than the photos.

We stayed the night, indulged in some of the most incredible food, and soaked up the jaw-dropping views.

My favorite moment was waking up at sunrise and stepping out onto the balcony to have it all to myself. Just me, the crisp mountain air, and the quiet sounds of nature. It was pure magic and, hands down, one of the best experiences of my life.

Quick Tip: Get up before sunrise and hike to the top of Aescher Ridge for jaw-dropping views of rugged mountain peaks—all to yourself!

I fell in love with the lavender fields of Provence the moment I saw pictures of this beautiful place. Endless purple rows stretching toward the horizon, bathed in golden sunlight—it looked like a dream I had to experience for myself.

I even planned a trip to visit this magical destination, but then Covid threw a wrench in the works. Ever since, I haven’t been able to make it happen, but it’s still very high on my list. Soon. Very soon.

If you’re lucky enough to visit, make sure to time your trip during peak bloom (late June to early August) for the full lavender experience.

And don’t forget to visit the local markets for lavender-infused goodies like honey and soaps.

    5. Cappadocia, Turkey at Sunrise

My husband and I always knew we’d elope somewhere far away and magical. So, when he finally popped the question, I already knew exactly where we’d tie the knot: Cappadocia, Turkey.

The first time I saw a photo of Cappadocia at sunrise with colorful hot air balloons filling the sky, I honestly thought it was AI-generated.

I had to stop everything I was doing and look it up because I couldn’t believe a place like that was real.

Turns out, I wasn’t the only one in disbelief.

When I shared our wedding photos, everyone assumed they were Photoshopped.

Surprise! It’s 100% real—and even more breathtaking in person.

If you want to capture the amazing hot air balloons in Cappadocia, you’ve got to get your timing right. Make sure to check out my article on the perfect time to visit Turkey so you don’t miss out on the magic.

Wearing a cozy jacket, orange beanie, and a teal backpack, the hiker gazes at the expansive and dramatic landscape under a cloudy sky.

    6. Angels Landing, Zion National Park

Angels Landing has a reputation for being one of the scariest hikes in the U.S., and since I’m no stranger to pushing myself outside my comfort zone, I had to find out for myself. After winning permits, my husband and I spent our one-year anniversary climbing to the top.

Was it as terrifying as people say? In some parts, YES!

I have a fear of heights, so it might’ve been extra intense for me, but even my husband admitted a few sections were pretty sketchy. That said, once you’re at the top, the views are absolutely worth it.

We were lucky enough to have moody clouds overhead, adding an extra layer of drama to the scene. If you’re up for the challenge, we both highly recommend tackling this hike at least once in your life—it’s an adventure you won’t forget!

This image shows a group of giraffes standing together on a dirt path in a savanna landscape in Africa. Their tall necks and distinctive spotted patterns contrast beautifully with the dry grass and sparse vegetation of their habitat.

    7. African Safari

I haven’t been to Africa on a Safari yet, but it’s hands-down one of the biggest dream travel destinations on my bucket list.

I’ve spent countless hours binge-watching safari YouTube videos, imagining seeing the wild beauty of Africa for myself. From the lions to the giraffes and giant elephants roaming the savanna, I can feel this dream destination calling to me—sooner rather than later!

If you’re planning a safari, consider iconic spots like:

    • The Serengeti in Tanzania
    • Kruger National Park in South Africa
    • The Maasai Mara in Kenya.

One day, I’ll join you there, camera in hand, ready for the adventure of a lifetime. Until then, it stays at the top of my list!

The sun casts a warm glow, highlighting the goat’s white fur and the lush greenery around it. Snow-dusted peaks rise in the background, adding to the serene and wild alpine setting.

    8. Glacier National Park

Glacier National Park is practically in my backyard since I live in Montana, and let me tell you—it never gets old.

I still remember visiting for the first time as a kid and thinking, “It looks like I’m staring at a life-sized postcard.” Your breath will be taken away. It’s definitely the crown jewel of Montana.

One of the coolest parts is the mountain goats. They’ll casually stroll right past you on the trails, acting like they own the place (and honestly, they kind of do).

    If you’re planning a visit, don’t miss:

    • Going-to-the-Sun Road
    • Hidden Lake Overlook
    • Iceberg Lake
    • and Grinnell Glacier.

    9. Murren Switzerland

Mürren was hands-down my favorite place we stayed while exploring Switzerland. This charming little mountain village feels like something straight out of a storybook. If you go, you absolutely have to stay in a mountainside hotel with a balcony overlooking the valley—it’s the experience of a lifetime.

My favorite moments were in the early mornings or evenings after the tourists had cleared out. The village gets so quiet that all you hear is the sound of nature. It’s truly indescribable and something you have to experience for yourself.

Quick Tip: Stay at Hotel Alpenruh for incredible views and an unforgettable stay. Can’t recommend this hotel, and its location enough!

    10. Ancient Egypt

I haven’t visited Egypt yet, but it’s one of those iconic places that just has to be on your bucket list.

Sure, I’ve heard mixed reviews, but there’s something about the rich history and timeless beauty that makes me want to see it for myself.

Of course, I’d visit the Great Pyramids, but my dream itinerary doesn’t stop there.

I’d explore the Luxor Temple, go scuba diving along the stunning Red Sea coast (swimming with dolphins is a must!), and take a dip in the turquoise waters of the Siwa Oasis.

It’s a destination filled with adventure, history, and unforgettable experiences.

The scene combines the grandeur of the historic cathedral with the warmth and charm of Strasbourg's famous Christmas market.

    11. Strasbourg, France at Christmas Time

As a self-proclaimed Christmas-loving nut, I had to visit Strasbourg, known as the Capital of Christmas.

Let me tell you—it completely lived up to the hype!

With its gorgeous cathedral surrounded by festive Christmas markets and over-the-top decorations, it was everything I dreamed of and more.

My favorite part was Petite France.

The fairytale magic in this section of the village made me feel like I’d stepped onto the set of Beauty and the Beast. Every corner was lit up with twinkling lights, and the half-timbered houses looked straight out of a storybook.

If you’re a Christmas fan, this is one destination you cannot miss!

    12. Colmar, France

I had to add Colmar, France to the list because it was another stop on my Christmas market tour, and it ties perfectly into the fairytale vibes of Strasbourg. The decorations might not be as over-the-top, but Colmar has a quieter charm and a romantic feel that completely won me over.

What can I say? I’m a hopeless romantic at heart!

Wandering the cobblestone streets, admiring the picturesque canals, and browsing the cozy markets felt like stepping into a love story.

If you’re looking for a magical destination with a softer, more intimate vibe, Colmar is it.

    13. Turkish Riviera

The Turkish Riviera has all the stunning Mediterranean vibes of Greece, but at a fraction of the cost. I absolutely fell in love with this gorgeous coastline when my husband and I spent a week relaxing here after our elopement in Cappadocia—it was the perfect mini-moon.

If you go, I highly recommend:

    • Taking a boat tour of the turquoise coast to see the sunken city.
    • Paragliding over the Mediterranean Sea in Oludeniz for jaw-dropping views.
    • Renting a Vespa and exploring the coast without an itinerary (pure freedom!).
    • Visiting “Kaputash Beach,” the most beautiful beach on the Turkish Riviera.

This destination is as dreamy as it gets and perfect for a mix of adventure and relaxation.

This photo showcases the iconic Al-Khazneh, also known as the Treasury, in Petra, Jordan. Carved into the reddish sandstone cliffs, the ancient Nabatean structure is illuminated by soft sunlight, emphasizing its intricate details and grandeur. Visitors at the base provide a sense of scale, highlighting the monument's impressive size.

    14. Petra, Jordan

Petra is another dream destination I haven’t visited yet, but my heart aches to see it in person every time I come across a photo or video of it.

The iconic Al-Khazneh, also known as the Treasury, is one of the Seven Wonders of the World, and is a must for anyone’s bucket list. The ancient architecture carved into the rose-red cliffs is just mesmerizing!

When I finally make it to Jordan, I absolutely have to pair Petra with a visit to Wadi Rum and stay in a desert igloo. It’s the closest I’ll ever get to feeling like I’m standing on Mars.

Fun fact: the movie The Martian was filmed in this surreal landscape.

If you haven’t heard of Wadi Rum yet, stop everything and Google it—or better yet, binge some travel videos on YouTube.

It’s truly one-of-a-kind and unbelievably beautiful.

    15. Isle of Skye and Neist Point, Scotland

When my husband and I were planning a two-week trip to Ireland, we decided at the last minute to spend our second week exploring Scotland. So, we hopped islands and headed north to the Isle of Skye.

I didn’t have any expectations going in, and maybe that’s why I completely fell in love with it.

The most beautiful spot was Neist Point at sunset.

The view was so breathtaking it literally brought tears to my eyes. I stood there thinking, “If we get to create our own heaven, this is it. This is what I want mine to look like.”

The rugged cliffs, endless ocean views, and golden light made it feel like pure magic.

Between the Cliffs of Moher, Killarney National Park, and the Dingle Peninsula, I found myself saying “ooo” and “ahhh” more times than I can count.

If you’re planning a trip to Ireland, I can’t recommend this enough. After spending a little time in Dublin, head straight across to the West Coast and soak up all its beauty.

Trust me, it’s where the real magic happens!

      17. Machu Picchu, Peru

Machu Picchu is definitely a dream destination, and I feel so fortunate to have seen it with my own eyes. It’s stunningly beautiful and incredibly unique—standing there in person felt surreal.

But I’ll be honest, I have mixed feelings about my experience.

When I visited, I took the train and bus up with a group tour, and let me just say I wouldn’t recommend that. The guide moves you through like cattle, and you don’t get to stop, take as many photos as you want, or really soak in the beauty.

When I go back with my husband, we’ll do it very differently. We plan to hike to Machu Picchu, go without a guide, and take our time to truly enjoy it.

Is it a dream destination? Absolutely!

But if you go, consider how you want to experience it—it makes all the difference. Food for thought.

The thatched-roof villas stand on stilts above the crystal-clear water, offering a serene and idyllic tropical retreat. Soft white clouds and the natural scenery create a postcard-perfect view of paradise.

      18. Moorea, French Polynesia

Moorea is a tropical island that only recently made its way onto my bucket list, but it shot straight to the top!

I hadn’t even heard of it until recently, but after learning that it’s even more beautiful and a lot cheaper than the famous Tahiti or Bora Bora, I knew this was the French Polynesian island I had to visit.

Now, I keep watching for sneaky deals on flights every single day. The second I find one, I’m booking it and heading straight to this dreamy paradise.

If you’re looking for an island escape with the bluest water and over-water bungalows that won’t break the bank, Moorea should be on your radar, too!

      19. Tikal, Guatemala

I’ve always been fascinated by Mayan culture and temples, so when I saw a photo of Tikal’s Temple I, I knew I had to see it in person.

Standing among the sky-high ancient ruins, learning about the civilization that once thrived there, and imagining how life was in such a majestic place was so cool, and it’s definitely a memory that will stay with me forever.

Quick Tip: The easiest way to visit Tikal is by taking a day trip from Belize. You can hire a tour guide to handle all the details, making it a stress-free experience. All you have to do is sit back, relax, and enjoy the ride!

This image showcases Mooney Falls in Havasupai, Arizona, a dramatic waterfall plunging down red rock cliffs into a turquoise pool surrounded by lush greenery. A lone person in a pink outfit stands near the water, emphasizing the immense scale and beauty of the cascading falls.

      20. Havasupai Falls, Arizona

Snagging permits to hike into Havasupai Falls with six of my closest friends was an absolute dream.

Hidden deep in the Grand Canyon, this turquoise paradise was worth every step of the 20-mile round-trip journey. Hiking, camping, and swimming under waterfalls in that impossibly blue water with my besties was truly unforgettable.

But let me tell you—hiking down Mooney Falls, the second waterfall below Havasu Falls, was an entirely different kind of adventure.

It was WAY scarier than Angels Landing (and that’s saying something!). My legs have never shaken so badly, and I’m honestly not sure how it’s even legal! 😬

If you’re up for the challenge, this destination is a must-add to your list. Just make sure you’re prepared for the adventure.

      21. Zermatt & The Matterhorn, Switzerland

I’ll never forget waking up at sunrise in Zermatt and heading out to check if the Matterhorn was finally going to make an appearance.

The first day we were there, it was completely hidden by rain clouds, but that morning—there it was, glowing and towering over the town in all its magnificent glory. I instantly teared up. Words can’t describe how stunning this peak is, and honestly, I was shocked by how emotional it made me.

My husband was still sleeping at the hotel, so I called him and said, “She’s out! You gotta come see this!” He jumped up, ran out to join me, and was just as blown away.

If Zermatt and the Matterhorn aren’t on your bucket list, they absolutely should be.

Quick Tip: Book at least three days in Zermatt. The Matterhorn is known for being shy and hiding in the clouds, so give yourself a better chance to see it. Plus, you’ll have time to explore the other incredible peaks around the area.

This image features Kate standing with arms outstretched, overlooking the vibrant, layered hues of Rainbow Mountain (Vinicunca) in Peru. 22. Rainbow Mountain, Peru

Another mountain that brought me to tears was Rainbow Mountain in Peru.

To be honest, it wasn’t even on my original itinerary.

I’d heard mixed reviews about how mass tourism was ruining the experience, so I decided to skip it. But when I realized I had an extra day at the end of my trip (thanks to getting my flight date wrong!), my friend and I figured, why not? Let’s see if this Instagram-famous spot lives up to the hype.

Between the challenge of hiking to 17,000 feet (the highest I’ve ever been!), the stunning glaciers no one ever mentions, and snapping photos with the cutest llamas, it turned out to be an incredible experience.

But, The Red Valley, located just behind Rainbow Mountain, was the highlight of the trip. Hiking through its otherworldly landscape made the experience even more unforgettable.

Quick Tip: Skip the tour guides and hire a taxi driver in Cusco for the day instead. That’s what my friend and I did, and it was surprisingly affordable. Also be sure to plan your visit for late afternoon, around 3 p.m., when the tour buses clear out. You’ll have the mountain almost entirely to yourself. 23. Puglia, Italy

I had never heard of Puglia, nor had I done any research on it, but when I was in southern Italy for a yoga retreat, we decided to spend a day exploring the Puglia coast.

The moment I saw the turquoise waters and the cliffside white-washed buildings and wandered the cozy streets, I thought to myself, “I want to live here for the rest of my days!”

I’d never felt so called to live in one place before. It was the perfect blend of charm, Mediterranean beauty, and tranquility.

Puglia definitely stole a piece of my heart.

      24. Maldives

There’s a lot of debate about which is more beautiful—the French Polynesian islands or the Maldives.

Honestly, I don’t even care because they’re both absolutely jaw-dropping. With stunning beaches and crystal-clear turquoise waters, how could you go wrong?

The Maldives, though, is calling my name with its overwater bungalows and honeymoon vibes. I can totally see my husband and me here in the near future. We just have to save up for it first!

It’s definitely one of those once-in-a-lifetime destinations I can’t wait to experience.

      25. Oeschinensee Lake, Switzerland

Oeschinensee Lake is the most beautiful lake I’ve ever seen in my life!

I used to think Lake Louise in Canada was unbeatable, but Oeschinensee wins by a landslide. With over a dozen waterfalls cascading down the cliffs, glacier-capped peaks towering above, and some of the bluest water I’ve ever laid eyes on, it’s pure magic.

When you visit, you absolutely have to hike around the lake first to take it all in. Then, rent a rowboat and float on the water to soak in the views from a whole new angle.

This is a dream travel bucket list destination if there ever was one!

      28. Andalusia Spain

I had the incredible pleasure of taking my mom on her first international trip, and I told her to choose anywhere in the world she wanted to go. She chose Spain, so I spoiled her with her dream trip, and we spent two weeks exploring Andalusia.

We both fell head over heels for Seville and Granada.

From the elaborate cathedrals to the stunning palaces with their intricate tile work, every moment felt like a dream. And the food—oh my gawd, the food! We ate like queens, indulging in tapas and regional specialties while soaking up the charm of every village and must-see.

One day in Paris just wasn’t enough.

My favorite moments were having a picnic under the Eiffel Tower, something I’d been dreaming about for years, and watching it sparkle at night. Wandering through the streets, stopping at charming cafés, and soaking in the Parisian vibe made the whole experience unforgettable.

Paris truly is a dream destination, and it’s one I’ll keep coming back to.

      31. Moonscape Overlook, Southern Utah

Here’s a unique destination I didn’t know I needed in my life: Moonscape Overlook.

When I was planning my solo road trip through southern Utah, I didn’t have high expectations for this spot.

But the moment I arrived, walked out to the cliff edge, and took in the bizarre yet absolutely incredible landscape, I couldn’t tear my eyes away.

The best part was I had this surreal place almost entirely to myself at sunset.

Standing there, it truly felt like I was on the moon (minus the zero gravity). My fear of heights was definitely kicking in, so I tried my best not to look down—but let’s just say the view was so worth it.

Quick Tip: The road to this location is really rough so make sure you have a high clearance vehicle!

      33. Sassi di Matera, Italy

If the oldest city in the world isn’t on your bucket list, you’re seriously missing out.

This hidden gem in southern Italy has been settled since the Palaeolithic period and is one of the oldest continually inhabited places in the world.

The name Sassi means “stones” in Italian, and the Sassi are cave dwellings carved right into the rock. Some even go as deep as 6 meters below the city’s surface!

Walking the streets of Matera feels like stepping back in time. It’s like walking the same streets Jesus once did.

Fun Fact: scenes of Jesus carrying the cross in The Passion of the Christ were filmed here.

This incredible piece of history is an absolute must-see!

      34. Lauterbrunnen, Switzerland

Switzerland is full of amazing dream destinations, but none are as fairytale-like as Lauterbrunnen.

With 72 waterfalls cascading down steep cliffs into a lush green valley, it’s easy to see why this spot feels straight out of a storybook.

My absolute favorite thing I did in Lauterbrunnen was walking the bike path along the river, passing charming alpine homes, and counting how many waterfalls I could spot at once.

Renting bikes is another great option, but since I’d just broken my shoulder in a bike accident in Grindelwald a few days earlier, biking was off the table for us. Walking was just as magical, though, and gave us time to soak in the beauty at our own pace.

If you’re looking for a dream destination that feels like stepping into another world, Lauterbrunnen is the place to be.

Belize will always have my heart.

From the moment I saw its turquoise waters and met the friendliest locals, I knew I was hooked. But it wasn’t just the stunning views above—it was what’s underneath the water that really stole the show.

Getting my scuba certification here was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made!

It’s an entirely different world beneath the surface, home to the second-largest barrier reef in the world and one of the healthiest and most vibrant you’ll ever see.

Every trip back just deepens my love for this place. I’ve gone four years in a row now and I keep finding amazing things to do.

If you plan to go, make sure you read my Belize Travel Guide and be sure to get under the water. Trust me!
